Default Is there a fix for a 2001 Cup Holder

My cupholder is broken at the hinge and i believe this is a common problem. I searched for a bit but I didnt find a fix for the problem. Does anyone know of one?? I would rather not have to buy a new cup holder and Im not a fan of aftermarket cupholders in my truck either.

Yeah I was afraid of that. I was hopping someone would have a magic cobble fix for it. I would rather not spend $50-$100 for a stupid cup holder. Hope a junk yard is cheaper.

There's a fix in threads c few months ago but he used thin cables secured to the dash and holder. One of the key words to look for is big gulp. Apperintly a fan of them and had to modify cup holder for extra weight.

I'm getting the impression that you're similar to me and anal on certain things. The aftermarket cup holder was the tip-off...so the cable fix in the Do You Think This Will Hold A Big Gulp (paraphrase) thread just won't do.

Do you have any pictures of it? I worked in scrap/salvage/recycling/junk yards for years and they always came in broken. I think we had one that came in that wasn't and the owner had me pull it so he had a spare.

In any event...if it's just cracked at the lower hinge I've repaired a few of them (and glove boxes) with a technique I devised for plastic welding.

Mine is NOT broken, '98 model. Should I "lube" it at the hinges to keep it from breaking? If so, with what?

RF, I wasn't saying anything bad about your suggestion, so please don't take offense to it. Yes I saw it and it is a viable option, I just got the impression from his post that it wasn't for him. That's all.

But what I usually do, believe it or not, coffee stirrers. Get a stack of 'me and get it set the way you want it. Light the end of it and let it burn. when it starts to drip make sure it's where you want it and keep it going.

It'll repair it from behind and isn't noticeable.

I'd say it's more from use than getting dry and breaking, but lubing it couldn't hurt. The first thing that comes to mind is dielectric grease.
