Default Oil Chane Interval..?

My trucks has about 1500 miles on it right now. I've ran Mobil 1 fully synthetic in my other trucks with either a Mobil 1 or K&N filter. I'd planned on changing the oil at 3000 miles and every 5000 miles after that but the manual says 8000. Wow, that's a long time. I tow a 6000lb boat, it isn't my daily driver but there are quite a few hills where I live. Anyone else?

Manual or whatever anyone else thinks be damned. Change it when you want to change it. Too soon is better than too late.

I read somewhere a few years ago that they claimed mobil 1 synthetic actually got better with age. I don't remember the specifics but I do remember thats what they claimed.

Also Just use a WIX filter, Not sure if the filters you mentioned are more expensive then a WIX or not but the WIX filter is a VERY good filter.

Another decent filter is the Motorcraft FL-820s. Rated very well on the review sites where they cut open the filter to check the media. Only about $4 at Wal-Mart. I guess might be tough for some owners to buy a 'Ford' filter for their Ram truck, though.
