Smile maybe easy upgrade thats free?

ok heres the story my father in law just bought a brand new camaro ss convertible. and he was on a forum called camaro5. and one of the threads were that the camaros ecu doesnt compinsate between diff grades of fuel. such as if the car was ran with 87 octane coming out of the factory. and you decide to put 93 octane in it the computer still thinks your running 87. which in then timing never change to burn the fuel right. which means waste of money on the better fuel and loss of performance. NOW here is how they fix the problem in the camaro ss. they pull 2 fuses and let it sit over night then put them back in. when they start the car back up the computer changes its timing for the 93 octane. they had proven horsepower and responce when they did this. now heres the big question,Can we do this. with our hemi i would love to know this cause all i run is 93 octane. and i cant get a tuner because i have a 2012. if there was a way for computers to do this without a tuner it would be awesome! LET ME KNOW!!!!!

Pull 2 fuses and wala?!?! Im a bit skeptical. Im guessing the pep is kind of like our trucks and resting with the key to relearn throttle etc.

What are the two fuses? Most likely its just resetting the ECU.
Secondly running higher octane than required is a waste of money. Running 93 octane when the engine is tuned for 87 or 89 octane will just decrease the amount of money left in your wallet and can hurt performance as the higher octane fuel burns slower.

The computer has programming. I don't see why it would be programmed to expect 93 octane after a cold boot?

Yeah this is not going to work (on any vehicle, including the camaro). The computer can't recognize octane rating. It's a VERY complicated process to establish octane rating, I doubt the camaro has the equipment on board the vehicle lol.

Running higher octane than required is not only a waste of money but it slightly hurts performance (almost negligible) but it also causes gunk/carbon buildup. Run the lowest octane possible without causing detonation/pinging.

Sorry the link doesn't work. But you pull the number 5 and 15 fuses on a camaro and it resets the fuel map. Go on camaro5 forum and go to the ss exhaust and bolt on section and it's a sticky thread a pretty good read

Trust me it won't do what you're saying it does. You can reset the computer which will reset the fuel and timing maps but as soon as you start driving it's going to take input from the sensors and apply correction values to multiply all the maps by, this is to adjust the maps to where they needs to be for proper A/F ratio. It has nothing to do with octane. There is no sensor on the vehicle that reads octane ratings, or adjusts for octane ratings. The only thing even close to that is the knock sensors which will pick up spark knock(detonation/pinging) if you run too low an octane and then it will retard timing.
