Default 1st Oil change

It went pretty well except for the oil filter what a mess that made. I have the 5.7 hemi and when you loosen the oil filter it drips on all over the suspension components. The oil filter is real tight squeeze to get out too. I put in Mobil 1 and a Wix filter. The manual said 8000 miles between oil changes is this what interval other people are changing at?

I place a gallon sized ziploc bag around the filter when I being to loosen it. That captures most of the oil before it drips onto anything else.

There are plenty of threads on this site regarding the subject of oil change intervals. Most are changing between 5-8K miles.

Cut a 2 liter soda bottle and place it under the filter...it'll catch the drips and you could even drop the filter in it. I wished Ram would have designed something to divert the oil drips. I can't remember which car I had that had a little slide ramp that diverted the oil away from components.

I'm also thinking on getting a fumoto valve. Look here: http://www.qwikvalve.com/

Only thing is that there isn't one available for our 2012 Hemis. They have them for the 2009 Hemis only. Does anyone know if the drain plug is the same from 2009 - 2012?

My Armada had a nice little ramp for the oil to drain down from. Haven't done oil change on the Hemi yet.

Howdy,
yes they do make the fumoto valve for the 12s. I have one on mine and it makes oil changes very easy and clean. I had one on my Jeep too and they work great. Have a goodun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Fumoto valve for the 5.7 is the F106N. I put mine on this weekend. I have been putting them on my vehicles for a while. Works like a champ!
I love the baggie idea! Never thought of that for the filter. Always used one for the thermostat though..
