Default Identifying my exhaust

Hi everyone!

I'm new here and recently bought a used 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi and it came with a pre-installed exhaust.

Is there a way for me to check what brand of exhaust it is? I can post pics if someone directs me to the spot on my truck. I'm pretty new at this stuff but any help would be greatly appreciated.

One reason I'm asking is because I'm getting a good amount of exhaust drone in the 1500-2000RPM range and I want to attempt some fixes once I can figure out exactly what I have installed.

Thanks for any help!

edit: here are some pics

Looks like a flowmaster 40 or 50 series muffler, you should be able to find the part # stamped on the muffler to figure out which you have

Ok actually a quick google search for muffler and I found the info I needed! It is indeed a Flowmaster...now to find the part number all I saw were patent numbers!

swap it out as well as the stock Y (the pinched pipe where they come together)....if you don't care about the tip then have it dumped just over the axle..that should remove the drone...

had to resize..drivin me nuts...also, this flow is small and has to be loud, both outside and inside cab...I'd swap it out for a much bigger muffler....

Thanks for the suggestions chef....

It is very loud, almost too loud for my tastes. The drone is killing me. I will look up an exhaust specialist in my area and see what they tell me about it. I will bring up your suggestions and run those by them first.

Thanks!

cool..I have changed my exhaust configuration many times...the factors for changing wer sound level (over time) incab, performance and drone. when i first got my truck i swapped my stock muffler out for a 3"si/so (4x9 body) magnaflow (all stock piping). It had a great muscular tone to it but over time as it broke in the drone went up (about 2k rpms), to the point where i would accelerate aggressively just to skip over it. Then due to that I swapped out to a flow 50 with side exits...it was louder but the drone disappeared i thought cool... but again, over time the tone got louder and louder to the point I was embarrassed to have passengers because it was over bearing incab, plus, although it had a nice aggressive sound at idle and part throttle, at wot it just didn't sound right (for a v8), hard to describe but not muscular, more of a rushing sound. So i decided to swap it back out for another magnaflow, this time I went big body (5 x 11 x 22") because now i was looking for performance and quiet incab, i figured it will be loud enough when I want it to be loud enough. Because of my previous experience with the mag I asked for a resonator as well but my muffler guy said to try it first because it was a big mag and it may not need the resonator (he was right), at first startup i thought i was in heaven, really quiet incab (compared to flow), just the slight rhythmic tone, and when i first started drivin i could not believe how quiet it was..no longer embarrassed to have passengers and when i want it loud, i had dual dmh cutouts installed so i could have my loud urge satisfied whenever i wanted it (see vid)

Wow I relate completely to your story! I accelerate aggressively just to skip the droning and am embarrassed to have passengers in my truck as well. What suggestions can you make for me when i talk to an exhaust shop? Sounds like going bigger is better and ill have to research a lil more about the exhaust types you mentioned because im totally new to this. But thanks for the help i had a feeling something was wrong.
