It's beneficial to have an X or H pipe (crossover) that connects one bank of cylinders to the other bank of cylinders (one side to the other). It promotes scavenging and leads to more power. If you run two separate "true duals" the whole way back without a crossover you are leaving power potential on the table. A good Y pipe setup is similar to an X or H pipe, they all perform pretty equally, and all better than "true duals" without a crossover.

Removing the cats and voiding your warranty is about the least of your worries. By law, emissions equipment that is tampered with/removed is a federal offense and maximum punishment is up to 10K fine and can have jail time with it. Lol you would reeeeealy have to piss someone off to get that though lol. I've been pulled over in the camaro open headers cammin the works an the cop gave me a modifie exhaust ticket rather than sending me to te state ref. at thy point to almost too big of a hassle for the cops to do all the paper work to bust you than it is just give you some half assed ticket.

I have taken my truck to the dealership for both trans issues, and a misfire and while they made comments about the equip being removed, they fixed my truck and actually said they liked the sound. Try have to prove your mods are what caused whatever it is that broke to break. I say throw some headers and a cat less setup on if your state doesn't have sniffer tests for registration. I may live in Ca now but my truck has Michigan farm plates which not I y exempt me from the sniffer w/ smog (Michigan doesn't have it) I also forgo the state inspection. Ca still can give me noise violations for my truck being so loud, but they can't bust me for mods (they could for the cats but with an out of state plate they just ignore me)


You canrun true duals on stock cats/manifolds as well. Just mod from the cat back. Magnaflow sells pre made x pipes. If I had stop front exhaust I would run 2.5" x to the sock tail pipes with dual bullet mufflers under the bed somewhere.


Stay away from the dual in dual out mufflers. While they do "merge" the two cylinder banks, its not the merge you get with a true x or h pipe.




X and H pipes make more power than a y pipe, but that's usually because people in general use correct size piping on dual setups rather than y setups. IMO the 3" cat back is too much stock for out trucks and might leave a little mid range on te table. Our engines don't spin the RPM to need a 3" pipe
