Hi there, I sold my truck about 8 months ago thinking I could live without it. Big mistake. Anyhow, now I'm in the market to buy a 2012 Ram 2500 Powerwagon. I finally found a dealer that will take my Harley in trade (I'm also trading in a 2012 Camry). It appears that they aren't giving me a very good deal. In fact, it looks like they simply tacked on my negative equity to MSRP. I know they have more wiggle room because of the difference between MSRP and their invoice price, dealer hold back etc. Anyhow, here's the deal they proposed. Please take a look to verify my thinking. BTW, the trade in allowance listed is the total of WHOLESALE value of my two trades. I think they are off by at least $6000. Thanks

$51,070 MSRP

Personally, I hate dealers like this.

However since I don't know the actual price of the truck and all the options on it I would suggest you go to Truecar.com and take a look and see what they say should be a good price for that truck built like the one your looking at.

In my experience it has been a fair guild line to look at when trying to gauge if I was getting an okay deal or not.

I don't know your situation but it sounds like your at a dealer that wants to haggle and fight every deal and I got fed up with my dealers around here like that. I ended up driving a bit to a dealer that does volume sales rather than trying to squeeze as much as possible out of each sale. Honestly though, $1000 off MSRP is not a deal. The rebates they get the money for and you are correct hold backs for that truck would probably be about $1000 or so bucks.

Okay, I have that exact truck built in TrueCar.com and they are showing(I may be off on one option or two but I figure I'm close) MSRP is 51,250. Factory Invoice is 46,898. The average prices people are getting them for at least in my area is 45,917. Dealer cost is 42,890.

Take a look for yourself and let me know if I got it right. If that is somewhat correct, according to that you are getting ripped off...big time.

Definitely...I've moved on to another dealer. Found a Powerwagon ST. Still playing the numbers game.

75 months. I can not even imagine, My rule is if you can not pay for a car or truck in three to four years you are buying more truck then you can afford. This line of thinking has keep me out of trouble, but that is just me.

I'm ok with 5 years, maybe 6 if its brand new. (thats 60 or 72 months), anything more than that...nope.

Doesn't matter to me anymore anyway, my next one will be brand new, and I will use the equity from this one for a good chunk of it, withdraw from 401k to pay the rest, and pay myself back.
