well i can vouch that the goodyears mts i have dont howl too much. good luck finding em though, they got replaced with a kevlar version. those dont howl too bad, they just look like an agressive at.

procomp has a decent mud tire. ive rode in a 07 chevy with a set of them (33/12.5/17s exactly) and it slings some mud. they have a bit of a howl, but not unbearable.

Really depends on what you need it for and the type of terrain that's around you. If you really need a great mud tire and ok street performance, couldn't be a better choice than a Swamper.
I agree. I run Swamper TSL SX's 38x12.50s and they are unstoppable. I even did a cross country trip (8 MPG, but, hey what do want?) and there was no drastic sign of wear on the tires. They are noisy as all hell but they aint made to quiet! I love my Swampers.

Check out Nitto Trail Graplers. They would be perfect for you. They're kind of in between a mudder and an A/T. Basicly a mudder with a little closer tread spacing. This gives it less wear for longer life and less road noise.
I'm in the same boat as you with my truck being a daily driver and am currently running Terra Grapplers (A/T). When they wear down i'm deffinately going with the Trail Grapplers though.

Cheers
Bob

I would say give the cooper stt's a shot. I just got them on my ram and have yet to be stuck going anywhere! But like people have said, they are basically a tough all terain, which is perfect if your truck spends time on the roads everyday too. For the price (and yours will be cheaper then mine because I went with 20 inch wheels) I couldnt be happier.

Dura trac. They work well for an all around tire. Clean out well in the gumbo in southern mb. Toyo mt's and m55 are tired old designs with no side lugs and terrible winter manners.
Hardcore mudding/offroading any one of the super swampers shine. Tsl, irok, even the ltb.

Im running Nitto Terra Grappler (305/70R17) and they are ok. really haven't had them in the mud that much. but they dont hook that well in sand. there has been a lot of times ive had to put my truck into 4wd just to get out of my friends ditch after parking in it. when I step up to 35's ill be trying out the Mickey Thompson MTZ

FEDERAL COURAGIA

These are the best mud tires i have ever owned. they climb like a squirrel and clean out incredibly easy in the thick mud. The little ridges in between the side lugs is a big part of why they clean out so well. Usually only very expensive tires have this feature. They are a real mud tire and not a glorified all terrain like so many other "MT" tires on the market. They have become really popular in my area with good reason. I have them on my Tacoma and after 30,000 miles i have noticed very little tread ware. I have a few close friends with them on their full size trucks and they have held up well.
