I modified the intake with a PVC 35 degree angle tube and kept all the rest of the K&N kit, put in a breather for the Valve cover and put it all together and great sound now, not to loud and still has that whistle sound shen you floor it, but way less loud. Here's what it looks like now.
My wife has complained about this as well.
Not enough for me to do anything about it....
But what exactly did you do here?
That hose is from the stock air box?

yup, used the stock intake muffle with the stock hose, attached a pvc 35 degree pipe to link the K&N filter to the stock tube, installed a breather (small pipe to the PVC pipe) to connect the valve cover breather for vacuum and adjusted the support hardware for the K&N pipe to support the new package. I am not sure but I seems the 4.7 engine is freaken loud without the muffler on the intake, the 5.7 hemi as I hear from others is not as loud without the muffler on the intake, I can't really say I only got the 4.7. Might be a combination of the type of CAI also, if you have both the free flow exhaust and the CAI on that 4.7 its just seriously loud, and more so in the front than out the exhaust in the rear, when hitting around 2000 rpm and up, with the gas wide open, it sounded like the hood was gonna blow off the truck. But now with this mod, no issues, don't know if it would be good on the 5.7.

Since the regular engine setup is the muffler on the intake and the air box thats it literally closed except for that small air hole on the side of the fender, I figured just getting the Intake muffler back on would quiet it down enough that it would still sound nice, but would not resonate the detonation that is happening in the engine when full open to the outside world. The K&N tube is real nice but it acts as a horn almost like those carnaval horns, by leaving the Huge K&N filter on the end, I am getting a lot more air to the engine, the original tube is pretty big so did not feel it was going to let less air in. Of course the Muffler on the intake is more restrictive but I don't feel like it will make a big difference, I looked at the inside and find that air flow is really quite direct and would not cause any issues. Am I getting the extra Horse Power I should be now that I have modified it this way you ask? Hmmmm, I don't think I am getting the all but 8hp extra it was giving me, maybe now I only get 4, but hey, whats is an extra 8hp anyways but a good back wind on the highway. So I really don't care if I lost any. I like the extra cold air coming in to the motor and the Filter itself. So at the end of the day, It works for me. If you want more info or pics, let me know, not sure how the CAI on the 5.7 sets up but I am sure with a bit of tinkering, you could figure out a way to do the same thing.

Here is a couple of more pics of the intake, as you can see I used a PVC 35 degree pipe, on it I drilled and taped a hole to fit the valve cover vacuum hose, the rest is all the K&N kit.
