Default Million Mile Cummins

This build log is for my '94 Cummins 12v.

Originally my Grandfather's truck for our trailer transport business, this truck has 1,168,XXX miles on it. Since I know people will ask;the motor has never been gotten into, the transmission was replaced at 650,000 miles. Other than regular maintenance. Fluids, brakes, filters, fuel pump, etc, the truck is original. He did have the interior redone, as he is a smoker.

I have been driving the truck for a few years when needed(other car projects, moving, etc), and was given the truck about a year ago.

About a month ago a prius decided to slam on his breaks about 10 feet before a light. A Toyota Highlander hit him, and I hit them both. It pushed the front bumper in, not badly, but enough to push my radiator into my clutch fan(puncturing it), and pinch some tubes on my transmission cooler, intercooler, and AC condenser.

All of those items have sinced been fixed, and I have taken this as an opportunity to fix up, customize, and ultimately tailor the truck to my taste.

My other car is a 7mpg Charger, so I will be using the truck as a daily driver along with the Charger. Since it does get about 22-24mpg.

The Plan
-Put flatbed on it
-convert interior lights to one color of LED(most likely blue or purple), including dash
-Fixing front fender
-headlight replacement with LEDs and HALOs
-replace running lights with LEDs
-Complete redo and customization of interior
-New Exhaust tip(Exhaust has already been done. 4 inch cat-back)
-Custom fabbed tow bumper

Before Picture

After the accident. Note the damaged front fender. That was from a hit and run when my Grandpa had the truck parked at the hospital. He was even getting an operation.

New flatbed

As you can see in the first picture, the truck had a 300 gallon saddle tank in it. It also had a turnover gooseball, and a large horseshoe fifth wheel hitch.

Who ever had installed the fifth wheel, welded tabs to the frame. This was BEFORE Air bags got put on the truck, and the bolts for the fifth wheel got covered up by the bag towers.

It took me nearly 6 hours to get the old bed off, and cut off all of the old mounting tabs, so the new bed would fit on. I also put the new fender on.

I kind of wanted to drive it around like this for a while.

I picked up two leather buckets from a new Jeep, and the plan is to put those in, and build a custom console that runs from the back of the cab to the dash, with cupholders, a sub, tweets, speakers, a switch panel, a bunch of compartments, and the new shifter. I am going to put a Hurst Quarterstick shifter in the truck on the console. I have one in my car, and LOVE it!

For some reason the bed doesn't look nearly as good as it does in person, in these picture. It looks almost disproportionate. I will get better picture later.

I also went and looked at the progress on my bumper today. It should be done next week.

And for fun, here is one on the trailer,

Got to love the old Cummins man. They keep on going and going no matter what ya do to them. I will definitely be keeping an eye on this build.

1.1M miles is down right impressive. The fact that you are starting the mod process at this mileage is absolutely great! I look forward to watching the thread as the truck transforms.

Of course! I have too many memories in this truck ever give it away. Anything that breaks will be replaced. I'll do anything to keep it on the road.

I have pretty much poured everything I have, over the course of four years, into my Charger, and this truck still holds just as much sentimental value.

Thanks.

I will be doing the center console over the next few days. I am hoping to have it done by next Wednesday. Welding new brackets for the new seats will be a pain.

Here's a poor quality picture of them. They are from a newer Jeep. You can see my blue Duramax in the background. haha
