Default Total electrical failure :(

Newbie here - been on the forum a lot just don't post much and kept losing my password. Today I had a weird feeling as I was turning the ignition key and noticed "Service trailer brake" on EVIC. Would not even crank, but every light on my dash started flashing and trailer brake (which I've never used) started flashing and making a tapping sound. I could not get my key out of the ignition as it would not let me turn it the last 1/8" to pull it out (between off and the Acc position). Finally got key out after all the strange electrical sounds stopped and I could turn it the remaining 1/8" to the left. Having it towed to nearest dealer who can't see it until Monday - told me he thinks it might be the alternator. It's a 2012 Ram 1500 Big Horn with 35K miles - seems more like the circuit board. (Ironically I just had a circuit replaced on my wife's 2011 Grand Caravan with 70K miles - very similar symptoms -wipers coming on, turn signal flashing, weird lights flashing on EVIC, no cranking, and battery is fine). Thankfully it's sitting in my driveway but I'm pretty disappointed with the unexpected 'out of the blue' blindside issue like this. Anyone else have this issue or have any thoughts? Drove perfectly just a few hours earlier in day and has been a trouble-free truck until now. Thought I might run a few other checks before it gets towed if anyone has any other ideas??

Yeah that's what I was hoping, but battery checked out good. I also tried jumping with a heavy duty charger and absolutely nothing. I know the heat destroys batteries in no time as I've had batteries only last a few years out here. Thanks for your reply

Got fooled on this one - it was the battery after all. Had 1 check on it that said it was fine and another check that said it was shot. (Dealer thought it was a faulty alternator) Bought the best battery I could find and got a great price on it - EverStart Maxx at Walmart. My kids work there and I get a 10% discount on everything, so the battery was only $135! http://bit.ly/21L4uci
I've purchased EverStart batteries before and they are excellent -made by Johnson controls which also manufacture Diehard, Duralast, Varta, AC Delco, as well as 20 other brands. This battery is identical to the Duralast Gold at AutoZone for $32 less and comes with a nice carry handle. I glad it wasn't the circuit board - had that replaced on my 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan and it had exactly the same symptoms.
