You got a bad one bud, sorry, but yours is not the norm. I have 70k on mine, totally happy with it. I am about to take it on a 7500 mile road trip, 6,000 of it towing 7,000lbs of boat. I trust it implicitly. I would never put my wife in danger, or let her drive something that was sub-par. Me? I will drive a turd around if it gets good mileage and is reliable. But one thing I do not skimp on is trucks. My next one will be a Laramie or Longhorn, at the very least a Sport. I will, for as long as I am buying trucks (until Lexus makes a pickup-I am forever a Lexus Fanboi!) give my money to Ram. I was always a ford truck guy, but I am converted. My whole family owns fords, and I will catch hell for it, but I don't care.

One bad CV joint, a squeaky seat and one bad turn signal light, and its a lemon? I feel your frustration but that seems unfair.

The warranty would have covered these issues, I would think.

That is just part of buying a new vehicle or any new product. There are many many components that go into a vehicle and there are bound to be mistakes or issues to wring out of some vehicles.

I havent bought a new vehicle yet that hasnt had at least one issue.

The paint issues people talk about, well, I have a definite opinion on that and its ONLY an opinion.

That is: Did you buy your truck at midnight in a coal mine?

Every new or even used vehicle I have bought, I go over pretty thoroughly prior to signing the dotted line.

Its a ton of money you are plunking down.....isnt it worth spending a few minutes to look closely at everything before its yours?

Sure, some issues you may not see right away...but scratches down to metal and places where there is no paint? That is stuff that is OBVIOUS when you are buying the vehicle if you are looking.

I frequent the show car circuit and I think I have a good idea of what "perfect paint " looks like and there is NO CURRENT MANUFACTURER of sub-$60,000 vehicles that have PERFECT paint.

You want show-car quality paint, you need to spend waaaaaay more than $40k.

The paint on my truck (silver) is very nice. Perfect? No. But very nice.

Maybe I am just lucky. (Unlikely if you know me...LOL)

Now, I DID buy my truck in the late evening (by the time I took delivery) and I missed an issue with my front bumper. Damage to the painted plastic on top (looked like car carrier damage maybe), and the bumper itself seemed to have some alignment issues.

Well, the dealer fixed the plastic damage no questions asked when I brought it to their attention the next day. The bumper misalignment we are still working on.

My point is that even though buying a new vehicle is supposed to be a problem-free and perfect experience, it rarely is.

The squeaky seat -- well, I would be irked too, but it could just be a one off problem. I dont recall seeing any "squeaky seat" posts......hope thats not an overall problem.

Calm down and let the dealer make it right. Hopefully you have a dealer who will. SO far I have lucked out in that regard. Knock wood.

It really is sad you got a bad one. They all make bad ones and it is luck of the draw as to what you get. I have had zero problems. Picked up the truck march 16th and yesterday I turned over 13000 miles. I'm averaging about 6,000 miles a month with my job and so far this has been the best vehicle I have had. I just hope it lasts. So far so good.

Default Sorry about the lemon

Hey Capt.
Sorry you got a bad one. It sucks. I know, my last Ram was a lemon that ran on diesel (first year of the 6.7). When I deleted everything is when it finally worked well. What it cost me to tune and rip off of that piece of crap I could have just bought something else and taken the loss on trade in. I traded it after the air conditioner went out for the 3rd time a few months ago and bought the 2012 Laramie. So far it’s been wonderful. But, my next truck will be something I can tune. I really just wanted to say that the members of this forum are great. I got on my diesel forum in early 2008 and bashed my truck and everyone bashed the hell out of me. Talk about a bunch of little girls. Nobody wanted to admit to a 50k mistake. I never forgave that forum and left it. You guys seem to really be a great group. Thanks for treating this man with respect.

Being a sales manager for a Chrysler dealership, I have seen my fair share of lemon law buy backs (and other factory buybacks that aren't lemon law). I'm not sure where you are located, but get your dealership involved. It's usually quicker than dealing directly with Chrysler. Ask your service department to put you in touch with your regional Chrysler Parts and Service Rep (they have a more official title, I just don't know what it is). It usually gets handled pretty quickly, well, here in Southern California anyway. I hope your issue gets resolved as these are truly awesome trucks.
MY Dealer I bought a truck from DELLEN Chrysler in Greenfield Indiana who SUCKS!!!! Sold me a truck all messed up and no help what so ever to contact the MOPAR rep!!! Would not even give his phone number to me and told me to call Chrysler Care....Never Buy a TRUCK THERE!!!!!

Note Chrysler care did in fact have Rep to call me in one hour!!! They are working with me NO HELP FROM DEALER!!!!!

op i feel your frustration. i think a good part of your frustration should be directed towards the dealer for not assisting you in making this right. went through a similar experience with ford 30 years ago. still won't consider a ford anything, ever.

Tell ya what man, I went through the same thing with my 2011 Dodge Charger. Bought it used with 9,000 miles on it. Anyway... at 20,000 a cylinder head cracked, at 25,000 both front struts went bad, and at 30,000 I had ABS falling off the car, somehow. Needless to say more went wrong at 37,000 that I wont even get into. Luckily my warranty ended at 36,000. Well I told chrysler it was a lemon time and time again and NOTHING came of it. Chrysler said they'd help pay for the repairs but when I got to the dealership the fat old man refused to help. I called Chrysler again and they took back their word. At 40,000 miles I got rid of the damned lemon and got a 2007 Ford Mustang GT. Haven't had a problem yet and I bought it with 40,000 miles on it, it has 52k now.

I would agree the paint jobs arent the best. I still have to take my truck to the dealer to get e few flaws (foreign objects in paint) fixed.

In my opinion the other issues you posted about are isolated issues with your truck itself. I guess you were unfortunate and picked a POS (lemon) off the lot, if you grabbed that RAM next to it on the same lot you would most likely not be here venting and modding instead.

Bought an 08 f-350 with the 6.4 powerstroke. I can totally understand your frustration, I spent a fortune on repairs and countless hours battling with ford over warranty. Finally traded it off at 75k miles. It would drain the coolant resivoir by the time i made my 22mile trip to work. Hubs quit at 15k, countless recalls and bullitens. Would dump fuel in the crank case and ate idler pulleys like crazy. That truck was probably a lemon, but i never followed up on it. Its one thing to have a few minor issues but another to have major engine failure while under warranty and to be looked at like a criminal by the manufacturer for buying a 50k plus truck. If i were in your position I would deal with the dealer first, those items should be covered under warranty...

As for my story I ditched ford after buying 7 of them. I Hope the Ram holds up and they stand by there product. so far so good for mine. Good luck with yours i hope they make it right
