Default Ok guys let talk Chips and ECU Mods

Obviously I am new to the site.. And by the way thanks to all those that greeted me with a warm welcome. Nice to be here.....

Now on to my interest. I have been reading as much as I can about these different so called "CHIPS" for the 5.2 liter lets face it they are all just ECU reprogrammers in one way or another. What my problem is, as I am sure with many others out there is which way to go. I see them from $59.00 that insall permanently into harness and take readings from one sensor or another and change the ECU out put. Some offer 75hp gains etc. Then I go on to name brands I know from previous vehicles and mods, and I see the prices at $200 to $300 plus which plug into the ECU access port inside the cab. These offer a more realistic HP and mpg gain.

I admit I am confused and in serious need of education in this area. I tow a small camper and occasionally a 19ft fishing boat. The truck seems to work so hard with either of them especially on long trips. The poor tranny is constantly shifting. I am leaning towards a stretched or faulty kick down cable on the tranny issue though.

Please Fellow "Z"ers enlightne me.

Be good all

Grizz....

I know what you're talking about. I'm in the same boat. Maybe talk to a speed shop in your town, if there is one, or if your town has car shows on the w/e, maybe someone will have some info.

I`ve been hanging around on this site for about 1 month and pick up some thing to do to my truck which has made some great improvements.started with a Flowmaster exhaust all-into-one with single pipe out the side. Got rid of K&N "factory" air filter and instead put a cold air snorkel, made by Spector. Added Throttle spacer plate, got a pretty chrome one on E-bay, save money.Got a Jet preformance chip which plugs into your PC under the hood , about $129.00, I didn`t want to pay any more.[ there`s cheepies as low as $49.00]
And be sure to catch the guy on this site who shows you how to clean up your throttle plate, buy removing all the extra "nud' on the top side of plate, I used a hack saw followed with a Dremmel to polished it
AND as long you have the throttle plate off turn it over and clean behind the butterflies with Mothers Mag wheel polish and a Dremmel tool" little wire wheel", This will really improve your idel as much as 300 RPMs. The grudge builds up behind the throttle plate lets less air in and the on board PC forces more gas in thur waste of fuel and slugish motor.
I bought of my parts at Autoanything, goood prices and fast free shipping.
Hope this helps
