Lightbulb A/C Headache

A/C blows cold once I add freon, compressor kicks on and does what it is suppossed to. After approximately a week or so it quits working and I have to add freon again. I took it to a shop and they did a leak and die test but said they could not see where it was leaking from, at least on the motor side of the truck. The mechanic said possibly under the dash area but wasn't for sure. I have not noticed any smell coming from the cab nor do I hear anything leaking. Any suggestions? Thanks

Don't have much expirience with a/c but while replacing the clutch in my sisters taurus I got a taste of it, litterally got some sprayed right in my face. anyway you should smell it if its in the cab, but it could be at the valve, a friend of mine had a bad shreader valve in his celica, we took it apart cleaned it out and it worked better, after that we found another leak. Good luck.

Good catch!! In the HVAC world loose shreader valves is one place to check for leaks and is often overlook.

With it going down there may be some air in the system. I'd have it vacuumed and see if it holds the vacuum. I just went through the same type of problem with a customer's vehicle. Immediately after the vacuum let it suck in some leak stop and top it off with refrigerant. If someone replaced something like the condenser then it needs a negative charge (vacuum) before adding any refrigerant.

Take a little soapy water and pull the caps off the shrader valves, drip it in there, and keep an eye on 'em to see if they bubble.

Default A/C Headache update

Hey thanks for the info guys. I just had the accumalator replaced and both valves. The mechanic said that the valves were leaking. He replaced them, but now it is still leaking from the valves.
He actually tested them with a sniffer and they are still leaking...Any suggestions?
I don't want to get rid of the truck but the wife is pushing for it.

Well did shop have a parts and labor warrenty? I mean if they replaced thrm and they still leak. But on the bright side she's willing to let you get a newer truck. Mine would tell me to roll the 2-60 and suck it up butter cup. She's so sweet!
