Default Octane Question

Engine is 2014 5.7 Hemi

Dealer is telling me 87 no Ethanol is ok to run. Guys at work are saying 10% is fine but 87 will hurt the motor, stick with 89 and 10% Ethanol.

Needless to say, Im about as confused as I can be. For last 10 years its been the same fuel in the same truck 87w/ 10% Ethanol, but that was a 4.0L V6.

Thanks in advance

You'll be fine running 87 octane in it with 10% ethanol for regular everyday driving. Pure gas is better if you can find it but that's fairly uncommon now. If you're doing any hauling, towing, or racing definitely step up to 89 or 91 octane.

I agree with brandonjansen and it is true, you can safely run 87 per the manual which seems to prefer 89 but indicates 87 is ok to run.

Agree with above posts. However, in my neck of the woods the difference between 87 & 89 is about 10 cents. I usually average about 18 gallons per fill-up with my 26 gallon tank (Never let it get below a 1/4 tank if at all possible). To me, the extra $1.80 is worth it. (Even though it just may be for my peace of mind.)

Just my two cents. (Or 180 of them) LOL!

I agree, about the same difference where I hail from and I run the 89 flavor. But I also tow, which gives me extra incentive.
