Yeah I think what I have is the Curt 14374 (it's a class IV). I thought it was 7,500 lb, but I just googled and it says 10,000 lb. Either way, I only bought it in lieu of the class III because it was on sale for the exact same price, and I figured heavier duty is safer. I will never use it to capacity, hell I hardly ever even tow at all. I may tow a couple thousand pounds a few times a year at most.

And AOO, if you're only 300 lb over hitch capacity, I know it's not technically right, but you're fine. I'm sure there's a factor of safety built into those ratings...

Well it is bolted on the chassis of the truck on both sides, it's just annoying that I dont have a plate rating or so ?
So does anyone know for the 2010 how much can I tow with the class IV, I've seen a few threads and it varies a lot ! actually I'll look for my owner's manual

I'd also check the RAM body builder, which will tell you how much your truck can tow(based on cab size, tire/wheel size, gear ratio, etc.). Just because the hitch can handle 10,000 doesn't mean the truck can. I think the body builder link is on the RAM site. Just google it. I think you may have to download/save the pdf to use it, it may not work in the web browser....I can't remember exactly...

The boat is 6370 empty. Then add trailer, gear, fuel, etc, you are easily looking at 7370. Hitchfail Since I don't have to tow it much or very far, I may just roll with it. I haven't decided yet...It is literally 1/2 mile to a mile from my new place in Lake Country Estates in Fort Worth, to the community Boat Ramp.

The hits is rated for 10k. If you have the most common setup for a sport (Hemi, 3:92 w/LSD) then you are likely only rated at 8,000. I very nearly ALMOST need a 3/4 ton for what I tow. A 26' cabin cruiser is no joke.

Yeah I wouldn't roll with 7,000+ lb on a 5,000 lb hitch lol. I thought you meant 5,300 lb...

it's a 6k hitch. If it wasn't I would have stuck a ball in the bumper and towed my car. Either way, a Curt CLIV is in my near future. I will order here in another week or 2, and it will be at the house by the time I get there.

I will install it before the road trip and that way I can tow the boat back.

Has anyone used the wiring plugs on the rear bumper? How good are they? Should I plan on running a separate harness?

I've had no issues with the factory plug. I don't tow a lot though.
