Default Y pipe

ok so ive been seeing here that almost everyone on here buys the maggy y pipe so it got me to wondering wouldnt it be better to get a x pipe or an h pipe for better performance and is it really a true dual if you have a y pipe thanks

It's not true dual if you have a Y pipe since the Y is combining the exhaust from the 2 headers into one pipe.

Can't tell you for sure on performance between the Y and an H or X td setup on these trucks but in my opinion unless you're drag racing your truck, a good flowing Y pipe set up will be enough for performance.

A good y, h, or x setup are all pretty comparative. There's little performance difference between them.

ok thanks i just got me wondering cuz a buddy of mine is selling his y pipe but i kinda wanted an x pipe setup as it gives it a different sound and takes some of the rasppy noise away from the exhaust sound and i do want the best performance for my truck as i plan on putting stuff into the engine now i didnt plan to at first thats y i didnt pay much attn to all these performance gains but now i do.

Do any of you guys know if there is a setup for our trucks with an x pipe and where i can get one and where can i get a ds tuner for the best price as of right now i have the superchips but since i plan on getting a custom tune and what not i need a ds tuner now or if theres anyone that might want to trade would be great

As far as I know there is no bolt in x pipe "kit". You could buy an x pipe and one dual in dual out muffler(or two single in single out mufflers) and make your own exhaust.

IMO though just do a good y pipe and a good straight through muffler. It'll save you a lot of money. Also, I justify it by saying the couple hp you would have gotten with the x pipe is offset by the extra weight of all the pipe involved.

very true what you are saying i never thought about the extra weight lol even though your engine might have a couple more horsepower you are adding the weight to the truck and money wise it would come out to about the same i live in south texas and there is some pretty cheap places around here but its very true what you mentioned thanks for that appeciate it very much i gues ill just stick to the y pipe so is there any good places i should look for a y-pipe and headers first to save me sometime searching

many people go with a magnaflow y pipe. I don't remember the part number but it's 2.5" dual inlet/3" single outlet.

member chefred did something unique and has an h pipe then a y pipe. You could try something like that, or maybe an x pipe then y pipe. Not really sure if there's actually a proven benefit....but his truck is FAST so.....lol
