Default 2002 Ram 2500 no brake lights

I always thought the signal lights and the brake lights used the same leads and bulbs. On my 2002 RAM 2500, the tail lights, signal lights and emergency flashers all work but no brake lights. I figured it must be the brake light switch but tapping the brake shuts off the cruise control so wouldn't that indicate the brake light switch is OK? Is there some kind of additional circuitry in this truck?
