Question Engine shuts down while driving without warning

I have a 2001 with the 5.2 Magnum runs great but with in the last couple weeks will be driving and it just shuts down. No warning at all just nothing only thing I have noticed is the tach goes crazy bouncing all over the gauge when it happens.I have check all electrical connections, relays, wiring harness, fuses, grounds and can not find any thing. Sometimes it will restart immediately other times have to wait 2 to 5 minutes and today died and would not restart. Had to have my son pull it home with his Ford explorer tried it an hour later and it start as soon as I turned the key.. I have had it checked no codes are coming up. I can not think of anything else to check very intermittent sometimes will go several weeks and drive perfect then sometimes it will happen 2 or 3 times in the same day. Any help or suggestion would be very appreciated.

I had this problem on a ford once, it was the ignition switch at the bottom of the steering column. My wife (at that time) had a bunch of junk on her key ring, it caused an issue with touque at the key lock passing down the ignition rod to the switch. Once I replaced the switch and made her get rid of about a pound of junk from her key ring we never has the issue again. The old unit looked good, except if you gave it a small twist when in your hands, then you could see a small crack in the body seal and where the ignition rod inserts, that gave me the idea that the issue was caused by transmitted torque. We lived out in the country and there was substantial driving on dirt and semi improved roads here in Idaho. Good Luck.

When it dsnt restart will you hear the fuel pump or will there be a check eng light? If you don't see the check eng light when you turn on key its computer related if you have light it might be fuel system related.

Even a bad battery can cause this type of issue. My battery seemed like it was good. It cranked fine, but when I brought my truck to the parts store they checked the charging system an told me it was the battery. Didn't seem right because it was cranking fine. I put in a new battery and it does not stall anymore

Time to put the old fuel pressure gauge under the wiper and go for a ride, mine died 'intermittantly' or, when it dies, you could put one of those foot pedal drum banger things on the floor, and when the eng quits, hit the pedal and let the drum banger thing hit the tank, to wake up the fuel pump!!!
