Default Dilemma, start modding or wait and buy new?

My plan was to buy this new truck (not when I did though) and have everything I wanted done to it from the jump, park it in the garage and use it as a weekend/fun/hunting/fishing vehicle.

Well taht plan didn't work out as my ford started having issues, so I had to buy this one early. In this time i still haven't been able to find a house I like to buy, I'm gonna wait a couple more years till the GF is out of school I think. And I'm putting lots of miles on this thing.

It's a 2011, I bought new almost a year ago, things I'd need to do would be a lift, wheels/tires, moonroof, stereo, Addictive Desert bumper, the fenderflares, maybe a couple other little things.. but that's the basic jist.

I'm still driving it though, so I'm debating if i should start doing the stuff I wanted in the first place or hold onto it and buy another brand new one in a couple years. Another Ram or a Raptor would be the two options, and the thing is I like this truck, but I"m not sure how much I'm gonna like it in another 40000 miles.

I can't be the only one that's had a similiar issue

My friend, nail on the head.

I myself am toying with trading up for a '13 Laramie Crew 4x4. That said, THAT truck is the only one I will trade for. Otherwise, my little 4.7 stays with me until she's dead. Gotta love Lifetime Powertrain . I will not own anything except a Ram truck until Ford pulls the heads of the design team out of their collective asses. Not paying over 40k for something I can't stand looking at.

Ulitmately it is your choice, but let me offer a little insight if I may. My 2009 SLT is not loaded by any means, but its not an ST either. I have put 40k on it since November of 2010. It has a about 66k miles on it now, and I don't see myself ever getting tired of it. If the truck holds out mechanically, I could still be driving it in 10, or even 20 years, and it wouldn't bother me a bit. I would throw a coat of paint on her and drive her another 20. Would I like the Hemi, heated seats, leather wrapped wheel, sunroof, and stitched leather dash that comes with the sport or Laramie? Sure would. But I am honestly content with what I got, and there is no shame in that. That's why she isn't lifted, or sporting a honkin' stereo. I could afford to go to the dealership, buy a '13 Laramie Longhorn 2500 crew with the cummins, drive it to the suspension shop and have a 6' lift w/ wheels/tires done, then take it to the audio shop and have a stereo installed that could shatter windows from half a block away, and do it all next week if I wanted to...but there is just something special about your first pickup, and I wanna hang onto that as long as I possibly can.

What you've got is a great truck, and it's a lot cheaper to mod what you've got, then it is to buy new, then do those same mods.

I know I've finally found the "right truck" in my '10 CC, and I don't see myself getting rid of it any time soon, unless of course if the fabled half ton diesel become more than just a pipe dream (but I don't see that happening either).

I'd say keep what you've got, mod the hell out of it, and enjoy what you've got by driving it until the wheels fall off

good luck

Exco

try buying things for this one that will fit on the next truck, ex. wheels and tires from a 2011 ram will fit on a newer ram in the near future, tonneau cover, stereo. I have been thinking that I will probably get a brand new ram next year as well, everything that can come off of my 04 and go on the new one will and anything that can be sold seperatley will. You dont get much more for selling a modded truck, once you buy a mod and install it its worth 50% of it orginal value when you sell the truck...

Just be forwarned that the resale values of these trucks SUCK anyway. Buying new is likely to cost you alot more in the short run. When I bought mine I wasn't sure I would keep it beyond 2-3 years. Now I am. I made sure to buy one with low enough miles that I wouldn't have to worry about it for awhile, but also didn't buy new because I didn't want to take a 10k+ hit if I needed/wanted to trade in in 2 years. At this rate, I will be able to trade in next year for a '13 and break even.

I would make your truck your truck by modding it the way you would like it. Buy yourself a good gas mileage beater and spend the gas money you save on your truck. In the end its all in what you think of it. I think the raptor trucks are cool. I was thinking about buying one but too expensive. Kinda like the srt line. no deals being given out. supply and demand thing.
gl in whaterver you decide.

stick with what works for now, mod it if you want

the 2013 Rams won't be worth buying until the 8 speed comes out in at Least January 2013
Do you really want the first year of the HEMI with the 8 Speed

So if you keep it as is for another year or two and then feel the itch, then go ahead and mod it all out and it will Feel like a new truck
