Default Squealing? confused

I have a 94 Ram with the 318 engine. It is making a squealing/chirping noise. I changed the tensioner thinking that was it but it continued. It gets real quiet or stops while the truck is idling. When i push the gas it gets loud and constant. The sound seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine. Ideas are much appreciated

Hmm passenger side, it could be the idler pulley or yes the belt tensioner for sure. Now you're certain the noise isn't coming from the power steer pump?

yes i am positive it is not the power steering pump. The idler pulley seems to be good. I am wondering if it is the pulley on front of the alternator

It might be the alternator pulley, you tried some belt dressing? If you spray the dressing on the pulley and the noise goes away you found the culprit.

You know what it might be, the water pump bearing.

The belt is definitely slipping. Is the belt shiny on the flat side? Then I would agree it could be the the water pump or the idler pulley possibly. Might also be the AC compressor. they are known to go out. Have to change to a new belt?

Well he said passenger side so it can't be the A/C compressor, it could if his hearing is messed up. I would bet my money on that water pump though, they are known to fail and it doesn't surprise me because if that big viscous fan that is attached to it.

If its shiny on flat side it can only be tencioner idler or water pump those are the only ones that ride on the smooth side of the belt. Power steering is the only one on pass side every thing else othe then alt is in middle. Find a long screwdriver to listen to all of the pullys listen for grinding through handel as the truck runs

It could also be the altinator bearings. I have in the past seen bearings at idle with low noise and squeel like a pig when reved.
