Exclamation Missfire--again???!!!! wt????

Hi, I have a 2002 5.9L gas w 53K mi on it. 2 yrs ago, I had a missfire on #8 cylinder. I changed the plugs, wires, cap. the problem went away. NOW, I have #4 missfire in 'check engine' light code. Any suggestions as to WHY I'm having this? Does it make sense, before I go out and buy/re-do plugs/wires/cap again, OR is there some common ailment I need to do fix first? I have also replaced the coil last summer. I avg 5K mi+ yr. Truck seems to run fine once done spittin/pukin when it is cold. After it is warm, occasionally hear a ping/tick from the truck. (tranny is a whole other issue with a broken 6" snap ring for OD/R gears)

Intake manifold plenum gasket is leaking. It's beginning to suck oil into the mix. This causes mis-fire and pinging. It'll get worse.

Ya, I guess things like this never get better on their own. Can you recommend a good repair manual? Thanks so much for your response. I'm going to research your suggestion/repair. Thanks again!

I have a factory service manual for each of my trucks. Never bothered with anything else. The factory upgraded the plenum gasket with an internal steel shim, but the Hughes Engines kit is a better long-term solution. Part # HUG 7720R. They have a link to a "How To" on this item's page.

Default hughes

Hi, I went to the Hughes site and looked at the write up by a customer. I feel confident I can do the job. Not sure about the fuel line tool if needed for my 02' 2500? From your description of the Dodge part by adding a 'shim' -- I guess another Dodge 'cheap' repair, but NOT a permanent fix...

Yeah, the metal was intended to keep the rubber in place, but it still blows. If you just bleed the fuel line, but do not disconnect, and just remove the lines and rails intact, I would think you would not need the fuel line tool. That plenum gasket has to be the single worst thing ever put on a Dodge.

Default hughes ordered

Hi, I just ordered the hughes kit, 180 tstat and front O2 sensor. Hope to be able to begin working on it this Friday if work/weather co-op. (If I receive parts). I see the kit comes with a new Tstat, but of higher temp. Not sure if lower Tstat is good idea or not. I live in SW PA, so we get cold winters, usually. Do you have any suggestions for plugs/wires/cap for 02' 2500, 5.9? I may do them too. I never replaced the rotor, but did others. I have 54k on the truck. But they are hard miles. often overloaded/short stop/go trips. I am getting away from overloading truck and getting material delivered since I had to replace the axle bearings.
Thanks again for your opinions!
