Default Tranny grind is normal?!

So I had my truck up to the dealership to fix a couple things that werent quite right when I bought it. One of the things I wanted them to look at was the transfer case. I've noticed when shifting into reverse theres sometimes a fairly loud grind and thump. Not all the time but getting more persistant. The stealership told me this is normal for Rams. Now this is actually a Nissan dealership but its where I got it pre-owned so I was kinda stuck with them. My question is are they trying to pull one over on me to get out of the repair or is it a normal thing. This is my first Dodge ever but its not my first damn truck and I've never had any make that kind of noise.

I'm confused. How are you stuck with them? You can go to any dealership you want

My factory warranty expired 2 months ago so a dodge dealer wont do it without nissan sending it to them. Plus I'm still under the 90 day warranty thru them. I wanted your opinions before I escalate this. If I push hard enough I think I can get it sent to dodge.

A dodge dealer will do any service you want even without warranty. You'll be out of pocket though

No, what I would do is take it back there where you bought it, tell them the Ram dealer told you it is not normal, then tell them if they don't fix it, Ram will and they will foot the bill. Be firm, but polite.

Talked to a guy over at Dodge and thats kind of what we decided on. Im bringing the truck to him for them to check it out and put in writing exactly whats wrong. He said once he calls Nissan they will tell him to just go ahead and fix it there. Sounds like a win win to me. I'll keep you posted on what Dodge finds.

MY '09 is only a 2X4
it started making the noise in reverse at around 40,000 miles

Those people that have had a standard shift will know the sound
it is just like a badly adjusted clutch, when putting it into gear from Neutral

the dealership said that it had to be the drive shaft & i told them that drive shafts don't make grinding noises. They replaced it anyway, noise didn't change for even 1 shift into Reverse. At that point Chrysler wrote a note to the dealership, that they gave to me.
It read, bring it back when it breaks.

I now have 65,000 miles on it & it still makes the noise

This noise can be duplicated at any time, whether it is on level ground or a uphill or down hill grade

I do have the Lifetime Drive Train Warranty
I also have the Lifetime Maximum Care Warranty with $100 deductible

I just have to hope that if it does break, i am home & not in Tim Buc Too
