Default Trailer towing

I have a 2007 Ram 1500 with the 5.7L Hemi. It has the tow/haul & OD off button on the end of the gear selector. I know the tow/haul selection is for towing, Im wondering if OD can be used when cruising on a flat highway while towing, or should it be left on tow/haul at all times. I had a manual transmission in my old pickup, so this automatic is a new thing for me.
Thanks...

I am not sure whats better. But I towed a 24 foot enclosed trailer and I think it weights 6000 pounds from RI to Washington DC in the Tow/Haul mode and it worked and ran great. My truck towed it with out a problem. I Tow/Haul mode there was more engine breaking and shifted later. When I was at cruising speeds I my RPM's was at 2000 if I remeber correctly. SO I say just keep it in Tow/Haul mode. But see what works best for you on the highway. Hope this helps a little

Thanks for the reply. The RPM dropped to what it normally is at in OD cruising at 100Km/h. I wasn't pulling anything though & just tried it today. Your right, the shifting is different than when in OD.

I am glad I could help help Blake. You might be right about the MDS, but I am not sure. I wish there was a light that told us when the MDS was engaged and when its not.

I've always had the OD OFF when towing, but from a stop, or when in traffic when speed varies, also when in hills or climbing OD OFF.

But if you're on the highway, running a constant 65-70 mph, i turn the OD back on.
