Default After headers

I was getting around 15-17 around town on my truck then i added headers. they have been on the truck for almost a year and the highest it has gotten has been 13mpg. I have hedman shorties, going into stock pipes until the muffler, then a 14" magnaflow and dual 2.5" pipes one out of each side. I am afraid that some of my other exhaust components might be restricting me now. Does anyone know for sure what else i need to do?

It shouldn't have gone down unless u have ur foot more in the pedal. Try using cruise control and easing up on ur driving if u are on the gas a lot and see what u come up with before spending anymore money!

My longtubes knocked my mileage from 22 down to 20 on the highway. Altogether my average mileage went from 17.5 to 16.5. I'm thinking I'm running a bad air/fuel ratio..

As far as the mileage it wouldn't bother me so much but i only gained 1th of a sec on my 1/4mile time. The truck seems to run better but by the mileage and 1/4 mile time it acts like now with the more open manifolds (headers) something else might be holding me back...could it be the tune, im with ramrt1993 maybe the o2 sensors are reading higher levels of emissions and altering the computer.

you should be running a CMR tune for sure to account for the changed air flow and scavenging from the headers, also a MAJOR restriction in the system is the stock y-pipe, you need to get rid of that thing ASAP

No video, but if you go look under your truck you'll see that it's two pieces of pipe squished together to fit into the SAME DIAMETER of pipe which is horrible for flow characteristics. One of the first mods most do to their exhaust system is pull that abortion out and replace it with a quality y-pipe like the magnaflow one. Mine was part of my header kit.

What tune do you have? Headers with most canned tunes will cause a lean a/f ratio. Although, this is normally only with longtubes, not shortys. This could be part of the problem though.

Also, did you run the truck with open headers or anything like that(even for a short period of time)? If the O2 sensors are near the end of the exhaust pipe when the engine is running, it will ruin the O2 sensors. It is possible to have bad O2 sensors without a check engine light.

And you still have cat's right? With the O2 sensors hooked up(both upstream/pre cat sensors and downstream/post cat sensors)?
