Default Preparing for a trip

I'm going to get ready for a big trip with the truck. We will be getting ready sunday and leaving next friday. Not looking to go over board, I do have AMA if something bad happens and I need towed or whatever, but thought I'd post here to make sure I'm not over looking anything simple.

I'll be driving from Orlando, FL to Dickson, TN, then to Keller, AR. Then back to Orlando, FL. It'll be over a period of ~1 week. Going to have the bike in the bed as well as luggage, the wife up front, and the 2 dogs in the back seat, etc.

Going to change the oil, check all fluids, air up tires, check spare, extra qt of oil, gallon of water, a cheap "auto tool kit", duct tape, zip ties....

Also I think I might switch to either the 91 tune or 87 tune(can't get 93 octane most places). What would you guys run?

Am I missing anything?

check the air filter, i use a flash light or the sun to see if i can see the light through filter paper
Of course you will have a cooler with soda or water in it, summer is here

I will be leaving on a trip myself in less then 6 weeks, San Diego, Ca. to Connecticut, then Toronto Canada, then return back to San Diego. about 7,600 miles i believe.
I need to get my Insurance Policy renewed, i already have the AAA Club Premier Card

I have an airaid drop in that doesn't have many miles on it. Wouldn't hurt to check though.

Yep we will have a cooler and snacks.

Also have a flashlight, bunjees, and straps under the rear seat, and jumper cables and some rags and gloves.

Dont forget a tire plug kit. While it might not be ideal it will get you somewhere safe

Take the tuner so you can adjust if you have trouble getting the fuel that you want. I get better fuel mileage with the factory tune and 87 then I get with the 91 performance tune and 91 fuel.....but it's more fun with the 91.

Good call, I'll leave it under the seat. Wouldn't the 87 tune get better mpg than the stock tune? There's also the mileage 87 tune. I never tried either...maybe now's the time?

I have never tried the lower octane or mileage tunes. It would be way out of character for me to do that.

haha I hear you, I'm the same way but since this will be a ~2,000 mile trip if the 87 tune may help, and all it will be is cruising on the highway, I'll sacrifice the 20 hp or so for the trip. I think I'll try out the 87 tune. I hear the 87 mileage tune actually reduces power from stock, no way I'm going there lol. I'll also have about 750-1,000lb in the bed of the truck, but I don't think that'll be much issue. I drove around all last week with the same weight in the bed on the 93 tune and had no issues. Some minor timing retard from the knock sensors(only noticed by accident when looking at the data logging), but was fine. it sometimes retards timing when not loaded on the 93 tune.

I don't see the payload being an issue. It will be far less strain then when I'm pulling my trailer, and I do that all the time with the 91 tune. Wish I could get 93 around here.
