I heard that the stock intake pretty much is a cold air intake just with a garbage filter inside it...

So my question here is would you go spend 400$ on a cold air intake or spend the 75$ on a k&n drop in?

this is going on an 04 1500 5.7 hemi by the way haha

IMO a CAI is overpriced for what you get unless you have more extensive flow work done. A $50 K&N drop in is good for a bit better flow and is a real cost saver since you don't have to ever buy a filter again.

See the posts about cutting a 3" hole in the bottom of the airbox and routing it to fresh air for about $10. I used a 4" line off the bottom of the box to behind the front bumper. It's as functional as the pretty CAIs for 1/100th the cost.

Well I choose the drop-in path since the stock air box is already inner fender fed. The drop-in is a definite improvement over stock, the dyno-butt confirms this
