Default 2003 dodge ram 1500 5.7 hemi MPG

Ok, guys I have been doing some reading on mpg on these trucks and I think something is wrong. In town and back roads I get good mpg like 12-16. But if i go on expressway or over 60 it drops FAST. Im getting like 15 if lucky on the expressway at 65 mph. I have read about people with the hemi getting 20 on the highway. Any input would be great. Thanks

Lots of variables to cause poor mileage on an old vehicle. Tires, tune up, transmission problems to name a few

My tires are brand new 275's. Just put brand new air filter in. I just got the truck like a month ago so I am unsure of the other maintenance done. my list of things I want to do includes oil change, plugs, rear end oil change, and possibly transmission fluid drop (i don't like flushes). It has 86,000 miles on it

Your figures are about right, meaning that's the numbers I get on my overhead console. You may get a better picture if you actually calculate the MPG figure from your actual mileage and fuel fill-up numbers so double check against that.

I get about 10mpg driving like I a mad man/as hard as I can.
If I drive on freeway normal was getting 17mpg and about 13/14 in city.(17" stock rims)
Now I got 24's on I have yet to get anywhere as I have no life and nowhere to go.
Really hate the fact that I have a dodge charger 5.7 on 24's and can get
18/19 on freeway and 15/16 street.truck lucky to hit 17mpg going
Anywhere.

I will try but don't really go anywhere but Anywhere I go I'll check it out ,I never roll factory's long on my cars/trucks.had 23's on avalanche and maybe lost 1mpg figure 24's might lose 2mpg the most.1mpg the least.
22's coming from stock 20's honestly don't think you'll lose more then 1mpg.
Had programmer in the charger don't know if it really works for mpg/which it should, but I'm really hard on my cars, had more power so I couldn't take it easy.
My point is if you upgrade rims/tires look into a programmer their only about 250 for a good one you should get your 1mpg back and have more power/fix the speedo/it has transmission shift change and if you get a engine light it will give you the code. Only problem I've had with it was my (62,000 miles)raditor fans both went out which I'm thinking I've might have abused the fans with the diferent settings, but it only cost my 100 to replace them..(on charger)
I've yet to get a programmer for truck just trying to share my experience, hope it helps.

I used to own a 03 2wd thunder road edition ram. I use to get 20 mpg on hwy all the time. Lowered 2/4,super chips, long tube headers, high flow cats, cai, split fire plugs, high performance wires, under drive pully, torque management overdrive, stall coverter, factory 20's, 3.92 gear. truck weighed 5500lbs ran 13.5's all day long and 12.7 on a 100 shot of juice. That was cruising 65mph. The first of the hemis. Lovem. Thats why im buying a 12 now. time to start over.
