It's called an restriction to increase of velocity on the downstream side....same principal used in my field of work. At my refinery every pumps suction is smaller before it enters the impellers of the pump creating a restriction at point A (suction)then opening it on point B (discharge) making the velocity greater as it leaves.

That seems to make sense,,,

I can't complain much about the Airaid I had. (yep, sold it, back to OEM now)

It was OK, but nothing that seemed to make much difference other than noise. (That, and a real PITA when I would occaisionally rinse out the engine compartment)

I had this: http://www.airaid.com/ProductDetail....ductID=300-237

Its no different than this with a tube:

http://www.airaid.com/ProductDetail....ductID=300-236

The tube diameter at the filter box with either is 'OEM'. Just doesn't seem 'natural' with a big azz filter! LOL!!!

Perhaps Airaid should just sell the tube itself along with a drop in, like they do for OTHER trucks! (or did testing show no benefit? )

Anywho, its nice to see something new for the 4th gens from S + B!!!l

I actually saw an Airaid installed in a 4th Gen a few weeks back. It looked really nice but I'm just not a fan of the open/unboxed design intakes.

What was the difference in the tube's diameter at the box's exit from your Airaid compared to the OEM tube? The one I saw actually looked a tad smaller compared to the OEM accordian-type tube, correct?

Fit was great, easy to install,,, looked good, but the open design didn't appeal to me much. Hoped it would seal to the underside of the hood... Some folks say their's do, but mine didn't,,, Gasket barely kissed the hood insulation in one corner only,,,Data logging w/my cortex indicated a quick rise in IAT's when stopped,,, Cooled down quick when moving, but no distinct advantage in temps vs. OEM,,, actually worse in stop and go conditions, which I do a lot of,,,

I sold it last fall, and I can't say I noticed / remembered any smaller pipe inlet ID in the Airaid than the OEM. At the airbox, the inside diameter of the OEM pipe and the hump hose used with the Airaid pipe are identical.

No noticable difference in either end of the airbox hump hose, so l'm under the impression they were 'very close' to each other.

TB end of Airaid pipe was bigger than the TB. Hump hose was 100% 'directional' and you could only fit/install it one way,,,

Diameters do affect flow and velocity. Velocity can be beneficial, and so can 'ball's to the wall' big azz intakes,,,, but,,, I tend to believe certain qualities are good for certain applications.

Matching a certain quality to it's corresponding application is key.

Kinda like the 3 bears and Goldilocks! LOL!!!!

Hey Grub, did you install the intake before or after the exhaust change?

sorry, just saw your question.

The Magnaflow 16869 and 10778 combo was installed well prior to the S&B CAI.

The Magnaflow combo was one of my very fist mods back in January a few short weeks prior to the truck's purchase; when the truck had less than 500-miles on the clock. I then did [re-piped] the crimped OEM pipe under the transmission about two weeks later.

The S&B CAI was installed just this past month.

I'm still testing the MPG gains on the S&B CAI and will give an update real soon with my most lengthy out-a-state trip only days away.
