Default No power, flashing red light.arrgh

Have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 slt quad cab - Wasn't driven for a while and needed a boost to get started. Let it idle about 20 minutes and drove for about 10 miles with no problem.

Then the radio started to cut out and the headlights/dashlights dimmed then went out. A moment later the truck died with a little flashing red light on the dash.

Boosted the truck again, left idle for another 15 minutes. Turned it off and wouldn't start again.

Should I assume the battery is the culprit or maybe the alternator?

Thanks for any help!!

i'd do both. If you have a volt meter, check the voltage of the battery and watch the drain. a good battery should read above 12.4 and shouldnt fall rapidly once you check it. if it reads any lower than 12, replace it.

to check the alternator, it needs to be running, take either the positive or negative pick, put it on the silver case of the alternator and the other pick on the positive side of the battery, should read about 14.6.

if you dont have a meter, just start with the battery. if it keeps giving you an attitude then its probably the alternator as well.
