Hey Randy!
It seems like connecting has become a challenge

Where do you source your oil and filter from?
I am looking to change my oil in about 1000km's (my odo will hit 10k)

Andrew, It's not just you as there have been no meets (other than GTALX in Etobicoke) by anyone this year so far. Guess everyone must be pretty busy. I PM'd you with the information.

I use Mobile 1 in mine and have never had any issues and I am around 56K. Used Mobile 1 in my previous ride and also never had a issue and I got about 150K out of that one. I love the Mobile 1.

Amsoil is the better of the gIV's, however it can be a real pain to get a hold of on short notice as it's almost entierly through their online store or you know a local private supplier. RP is overpriced, but it's what I use since I can pick it up by the case from my local speed shop, and M1 can be had from most parts stores.

Use synthetic from your first oil change, you won't hurt a thing with the tight tollerance of these engines and they have already been factory run for break in.
can you site your source as to m1 being the original factory fill from the factory. mobil 1 has not been a group4 syn since the castrol oil mobil 1 law suite defining exactly what constitutes a syn oil. it is a group 111 syn.

op, if you want some good info on oil check out, bob is the the oil guy forum. as for which brand, you will do fine at wall mart, i use m1, but will use penzoil ultra if it is on sale. any of the known syns at wall mart will do fine.

I switched to Mobil 1 with a Wix filter at 4000 kms. I swear by the stuff... Watch for the ms 6395 additive required by Ma Mopar when making your purchase. Also there are only a few true synthetics out there... Amsoil and Mobil 1 are in that group. There are others I am sure, but a bunch of the players are using base mineral stocks and additives and calling them synthetics on a legal technicality. At least from what I read. I have used synthetics for over a decade now, and the do pay off... My 97 Dakota was spotless inside when I tore it apart to throw a timing chain in at 150,000 kms. Hell, my lawn mower runs synthetic! Lol.

Just do it...

I just did my first oil change a couple weeks ago and used Mobil 1. I used RP in my last car until it got so expensive but stayed with synthetic. Car had 175k on it when I traded it in and it is still going.

Hey lakinghorn, I am from Lead here in the Black Hills...Which dealer do you work for? I just bought a 2012 Tradesman a couple of weeks ago. I am also considering going to Mobile 1 in my Ram.
