Default Pinion nut/ Rear end failure Poll Info wanted

Hello all. After looking around I see that there are a number of reported rearend failures, some from pinion nuts that loosen and others that are from various reasons. My question to you all, is if you had a failure, what diff do you have? Was it a limited slip or open? What ratio? What year? Was it pinion nut related or other? I am trying to get a grasp on the most common failures to get a better idea if it is limited to a particular rear, or if it is across the board on all of them? I am concerned with the problem and want to watch out for it. Or is it even really that common? Your input would help.
Thanks.

I've never heard of those problems before & I'd have to assume they apply to later models after Dodge changed something big. And why they would is beyond me -- my '98 came with a Dana 60 front, Dana 70 rear & you have to work really, really hard to tear those up !!

We are talking Ram 1500's with the 'Corporate' rear ends. Years most affected seem to be 08-10, dosnt matter what ratio, 4x4 or 2wd. The issue is big if it happens to you.
The Dana 44 was better than what they install nowadays.

No doubt that the Dana rear was beefier than the new ones. But thats not what I am looking for here. I want to see if this is indeed a big issue or a small problem.

My pinion nut backed off slightly causing a leak which I caught and took to the dealer. I cant say if it was manufacturer or dealer error since my gears were upgraded to the Mopar 3.92/LSD by the same dealer. All I know is it was leaking and now it is not.

I did a little investigating and it seems my suspicions were on track. The pinion needs to be about a half inch longer, as well as the pinion yoke. The yoke could stand to be longer yet, but the pinion bore def needs to gain that half inch or so.

To put it in perspective the 9" ford has a 1" longer bore length in its pinion yoke.
Also of note the 9.25 has a similar bore length to the early 10.25" ford which shared the pinion nut problem until they lengthened the pinion, and yoke bore

No problem here. I only have 17,000 on mine though. I religiously check underneath my truck for leaks. Be sure I'll be at the dealer first sign of a leak.
