Default A/C Problems

Hi, I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.2 engine. The A/C wasn't blowing cold so, I bought a can of freon and charged the system. The A/C blew nice and cold and worked for a few days. The A/C stopped working a few days later. I have a Freon leak somewhere in my system. Does anyone know what is a common leak area for this A/C system and does anyone know how many o-rings are in the A/C system. I'm guessing that I need to change the O-rings, anyone ever go through this before and if so, any info will be appreciated.

you can buy freon with dye in it, run it through, than check with a black light to see where the leaks are.

At first the compressor would turn on then turn off after a couple seconds, I filled the system with a large can of freon, the A/C worked great and compressor worked good. After a few days it appears as though the A/C freon is leaking out, the A/C compressor now goes on and off every few minutes and the A/C isn't as cold. I'm pretty certain the A/C system has a leak. I guess I'm gonna have to buy a can of dye and a black light and search for the leak.

i had the same problem. being an hvac technician though, i had access to and electronic leak detector."sniffer" my leak was at the first o-ring coming from the condenser coil going towards the evaporator.

Can you hear the pressure relief valve kicking in? It's an obnoxious "hiss" sound so you'll know it when you hear it.
