Angry Swollen lug nuts?

I took my 2011 Ram Laramie in for oil change, tire rotation today, 14,800 miles.
The service advisor told me that they couldn't remove the lug nuts without possibly breaking the studs and that 16 of the 20 lug nuts would need to be replaced at a cost of $177. plus tax. This is just the cost of the lug nuts and does not include replacing any broken studs. I have the original factory Laramie wheels and lug nuts with one locking nut on each wheel. They have been rotated at every oil change without a problem. I spoke with the service manager and he said that he has had several instances of this but mostly from people who live on the beach area. I do live in Florida, but not on the beach. My previous vehicle was a 1998 Z71 with aluminum alloy wheels and never had a problem with swollen lug nuts after nearly 170,000 miles, and my wife drives a 2007 4runner, also with aluminum wheels, 80,000 miles, and no swollen lug nuts.
It sounds to me like this should be a warranty issue due to defective products used in the lug nuts or the plastic wheel covers.
Has anyone else had an issue with this, and if so how was it resolved?

I've never heard of this but if they are OEM equipment I cannot believe they would charge for this. Sounds like a warranty issue to me.

I know the kind that your talking about but I think these are actually covered in some type of plastic, according to the service manager. They have to this point, only been touched by the dealer and they all look new and untouched. There is apparently something causing the outside cover to expand making it impossible to get a socket over it without damaging it.
So, if this is the case, what if I were to have a flat someplace, does this mean that my truck, that still has a little bit of a new smell inside would have to be towed at my expense due to poor quality parts?

F-that, take some pictures and get your service records together. If you say it's only been dealer serviced then it's on them. Time to burn up a phone.

I had swollen lug nuts once. Doctor gave me some medicine and told me to stay in bed for a couple of days and use ice packs on them. Sure enough, they cleared right up!

Have had my wheels/tires rotated two times (26,000 miles) Never heard of a lug nut issue. I do not know why living in FL would have any bearing unless you ran it on the beach and exposed the wheels to salt water. Someone may be going heavy on the air wrench or needs to learn where and how to use it.
