Default Any tips on removal of door panels?

I need to remove my door panels to get at the door lock actuators, anyone have advice on how to do this with out breaking anything? Is there a tool I need to buy? I don't think Ive ever taken off an interior door panel w/out breaking something! Thanks for the help.

As I mentioned in the "Bad window/door lock Switches?" thread, getcha a small "flat bar" -- it's a commonly used trim carpenters tool for doing things like prying moulding loose without tearing it up -- local hardware store will have one & you could use a larger one too. There are just 3 screws which hold the panel on (2 in the recessed place you use to close the door & 1 top/front) & there are several white plastic push-in tabs all the way around the perimeter of the door panel. You have to pry those loose & if you take your time you can reuse those pieces, but if they tear up, your local auto parts store should have them -- I bought a pack of 8 just in case.

Once you get the screws out & all the snap-ins popped off you'll have to lift the panel over the lock button, then slide it forward so the handle in the middle will clear. My truck has power mirrors too, so you can't pull the door panel completely away from the door unless you unhook those wires, but I didn't need to just to replace the door speakers. And once you get the panel off you'll see there's a sheet of plastic covering the whole inside of the door so you'll have to peel that off before you can go any farther (but not to replace speakers).

Getting to the power lock mechanism will have to wait for another day as I couldn't even see how to get to it! Most of the inside of the door is steel, without the large openings I'm accustomed to seeing. If you get that far 1st, let us know!!! If I do I will.

I just posted the removal of the lock mechanism in another thread:

http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=117709

It's a short but thorough version...

(the flat bar for removing the clips is a good idea. I have a tool for it and it looks like the old dandilion puller. If you have manual windows you'll have to get the locking "C" type clip off before you slide the handle off. There's also a tool for that but if you push in on the panel you can see it well enough to pop it off. When putting the handle back on, put the clip where it belongs. Put the handle in the position you want and push it back on until you hear the clip lock back in place)

The mirror knob can be unplugged and I think it's got 2 phillips head screws in the back holding it to the panel...

Talk about showing my age...you may be doing the same by knowing what I was talking about

(I used that reference after looking at your stats up there and I'm sure you know exactly what type of tool you should use now. send me tips on modding my wheelchair when you start yours...Warlock III out)
