Default Race Gas Questions

Can someone with some experience wal me through the basics of race gas:

Leaded vs Unleaded

Oxygenated vs Not

I want to be able to run the 93 tune on my InTune, but all we have in OK is 91, with a few 93 stations scattered around and 5+ dollars a gallon. I would like to get a 5 gallon can of something like 100 to mix in when I go to the track. Right now, the motor is just bolt-ons, but I have a lot of stuff going together in the next few months, including a nitrous kit. Thanks guys!

Do some research...and don't listen to too much of what you're gonna hear here. You can do some real damage with race gas in modern motors...make sure you get it right.

If you want some real race fuel I'll send ya some of the M5 we run. It's 95% methanol, 5% nitromethane. Yes, flames will come out of your exhaust. lol

Seriously though...contact the mfg of the gas you wanna run and take their advice over anyone elses.

I just want some good unleaded 93 so I can run nitrous and not have to worry about it blowing up! I just want a good starting point. I don't want to run leaded gas, probably just some 100 mixed with 91 to give me some safe 93-95 octane

I've run 96, 98 and 100 unleaded race gas we can get at the pump at a gas station close to here. I have tried 110 leaded but i don't have cats to worry about.

Half a tank of 91 and half a tank of 95 will give you 93

I'm not sure if octane booster would do the trick....never used it...but that'd be the easiest/cheapest way if it'd work. Put a $4 can of octane booster in the tank and fill 1/4-1/2 tank and run it at the track like that.

I would recommend aiming a little higher like for 95 octane with a 93 tune. When I run pump 93 gas with my 93 tune it still has to pull timing.

Octane boosters are pure BS....CATS=unleaded,NO CATS=leaded...Oxygenated fuel will lean you A/F ratio by providing more oxygen in the engine...you have to find some way to run your engine a bit richer with that fuel....I'm a snowmobile drag racer with a 215 hp Skidoo Mach Z 800 1998 and i have some experimentations done with fuels...take it or give it.Rule of thumb...unless your engine NEED more octane...don't give him more...it's a lost of money. My .02

My pleasure...in nitrous appilcation since i have no tuner i will probably use high octane fuel when i intall the second stage...it will act as a timing retarder.Lot of infos with g**gle.
