Unhappy Remote start issue

Just purchased a used 2009 Dodge RAM 1500 w. 5.7L hemi. It supposedly has remote start capability.

Unfortunately, when I press the button twice to remote start it, a message pops up on the console that says: "Remote start aborted - Hood ajar"

Any ideas?

Check the hood pin.... it might need adjusted or it may even be bad. The remote start won't work when the hood is up as a safety feature.

When I bought my first Ram in 2011, I remember this being a common issue that was being brought up on the forum. Like Stimpy433 said, has something to do with the remote start not recognizing that the hood is closed.

When I picked up my truck new, it did this too.. Was told by the service department that one of the service updates had been performed wrong and was redone.. I don't know if this is your case as like I said it was when I first bought the truck back in '09.

Did the 09's use a hood pin for a factory remote or is the switch built into the hood latch like the newer ones.I've read about a few switches in the hood latch going south.

Maybe try to push the hood pin down and try and start it. If that doesn't help you might have to have dealer reprogram it. Good luck and let us know how you fixed it.

Thanks to all who replied.

The issue was a missing hood latch plate, which activates the pin when closed.

$55 later, all is good in the world.

Great dealership in Clarkston, MI too. They haven't steered me wrong yet.
