Default Just noticed this.

I've had my regular cab truck for about 3 months now. When backing into my driveway after work, I pretty much exclusively use just my mirrors. Yesterday when backing in, the wife had some items in the driveway from cleaning out her Yukon. Had to check the mirrors, then turn my head and look out the rear window to double check. When I did this, I noticed that I could see daylight between the tailgate and the side of the bed. Is this normal? Nothing on my truck is misaligned in any way. Not a big deal, just don't remember seeing this on any other truck I've ever owned. What do you guys say?

I recall hearing about a 'tailgate seal kit' you can install if you have a toneau or cap to seal it up well. For those of us with open beds, it's a non issue.

I will say, the tailgate on my RAM fits much better and is more 'tight' feeling than on my Chevy. In fact, I had the tailgate down once on my Chevy and hit a bump and it came off on one side and was only being held on by the straps!

Yeah, my bed is open. I was thinking that all 1500's were this way, just wanted to check with my RAM brethren on the Z. Thanks guys!

It's the same way on my 3500. Not what I was expecting as it's the first truck that I've had with this issue. All of my previous trucks had a good seal without an accessory "kit".

Biggest gap of any truck I owned but doesn't bother me at all. Didn't even notice it until I had a spray in liner installed.

I noticed it right off the bat, actually pissed me off for a while

then i saw what was under the tailgate cap & side rail caps & i thought this thing is a POS

reminds me of the old International pickups, you had to tie the hood down & use rope to hold the doors closed, but you could NOT kill the frame & drive train

I doubt any brand truck actually seals at all. Maybe it's not as noticeable but...

I haven't really noticed it on mine but I haven't really paid attention

Maybe I got lucky but I don't have any gaps on mine. I have the factory spray in liner but I don't think that would matter too much.

With the big gap you don't have to lower the tailgate to get better MPG lol
