Default Ordering Gears

Hello All.

My son gets his license Wednesday, OUCH, and for his birthday his mom and I bought him a 99 dodge 1500 4x4. Well since buying the truck we have replaced the upper and lower ball joints, added a HBS leveling kit, and new front shocks all this because he wanted to add 315's to the truck. Now keep in mind I am not buying the wheels and tires, he is. He cuts grass and works a part time job and has saved almost $1800....proud of him. Instead of tires, we, I, have decided he needs gears before tires and he agrees. Seems that is the one mod that everyone loves.

He carried his truck to a local shop to ask about gears and the install cost. We were told we needed to order the gears and bearing kit and just the labor would be $850 and that I needed to make sure the gears will fit in the carrier. So I went to Randy's website after reading about gears on here and got what I thought was needed.

Will you guys take a look at the link and just tell me if I am ordering the right things? I want to make sure before I make the order.

The link doesn't go to the particular gear set & the best thing to do is go to the dealer parts counter to see what was available on that truck new -- should have been several options. You can use the part numbers/description for different ratios to cross over when shopping outlets other than Dodge dealers. I don't know what axles the 1500 came with, but the Dana differentials on my truck can run several different ratios, including 3.57 (standard), 3.91, 4.10 (which I ordered) & 4.56. And while you're at it, might as well spend the additional $$$ for limited-slip differentials -- 4 wheels pulling sure beats just left front & right rear!
