Default What oil to run?

I'm going off my past knowledge of imports here (which might be wrong), but we use to get dyno proven results running royal purple oil in our small I4's and V6's. Normally between 2-7 whp.

What's the verdict on us big V8's? What type of oil do you run? What's giving the best results?

I'm running Amsoil 0W20 signature series, a bit pricey but worth it. I did notice the engine quiet right down the first time I used this oil (at 5,000 kms). The mileage also seemed to increase as well. Can't comment on Royal Purple as I have never used it.

Whatever full synthetic is on sale. Usually Mobil 1 or Penzoil lately. Only pain in the ass is my 2 cars both take 6 qts and now this takes 7. Why are the specials always for 5qts ?

Is it ok to run full synth in winter? Or is that a myth? The coldest it might get up here is -25C.

Also on the same topic. Anyone running oil coolers? Is there a kit out there or am I better off fabing one up myself? I've made a few custom ones in the past, shouldn't be hard as long as I can get the sandwich plate with a thermostat. Or should I just leave well enough alone and not bother?

Your 09 has an oil cooler if it has the tow package. I run M1 5w-20 most of the time. Last time I wasnt home, wife took it to firestone and they used Kendall Titanium 5w-20. This time, I got a deal on Pennzoil Platinum so thats what is going in it, today, matter of fact.

To me a name brand synthetic is as good as the next for a normal driver. I think the main thing is too get a good filter. I run mopar myself since it came with it and a friend who works as a tech at dodge uses it him 12 express. There are several other good filter just stay away from the cheap ones.
