Ok. I don't know if this is the right place to post this, so admins please let me know if I'm wrong. About 2 months ago I noticed a whining from the steering when I turned the wheel. I checked the power steering fluid and I was low so I added some. I kept looking for a leak, and there is fluid under the truck around the power steering pump, going back as well as some spread under the front end. Two weeks ago I noticed that turning the wheel when at idle was impossible. I had to bring the rpm's up to 1000 to get any response from the steering. Even when I turn a corner while moving I heard the whining noise from the power steering pump. So now I am waiting for a pump to get in. But because I didn't read the Chilton's manual or research the internet, I put regular power steering fluid in instead of the atf+4 trans fluid. The reservior tank is clean. No metal shavings in it at all. So since I used the wrong fluid, did I mess anything up? What should I look for?
