Default 4.10 gears in a 2006 Ram 1500 ST 2WD

Can anyone tell me if putting in 4.10 gears in my truck is a wise decision please. I'm from Florida, but I'm moving to Boston. I know buying a 4x4 is the sensible option, but that's not my option right now. Will the gearing change help in traction at all?

It will make it accelerate more quickly, which could hurt traction. It also make the truck seem more responsive! I would look at some better tires for the weather.

+1 and i would add, if you don't have a Sure-Grip, then you might want to install some kind of limited Slip diff system. i have a peg legger and i really want a LSD, maybe a Detroit TrueTrac or some kind of lunchbox LSD to install since i can't afford to go all the way with an Auburn. you''re gonna want the extra traction of 2 wheels over 1. especially if you get some "grippier" tires to handle bad weather.

also, if you're worried about MPG, 4.10s may not be the best way to go...when i get the chance to get different gears, i think i'll go with 3.92... MAYbe 4.10 ... cause i have to commute and with gas prices goin up.....

manual or auto? current gear ratio?
3.55's then 4.10's maybe all round gear but would still consider 4.56's. You want to get that fat v6 barge up to cruising speed.
