Default 2012 Gears

I am running 35's and would like to move to 37's but from what I understand, this year models front gears cannot be changed or nobody makes them for the carrier. Anybody have any experience with this or know of any options?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I bet Randy's Ring & Pinion does - https://www.ringpinion.com/

Ring 'em up during daytime hours, let us know what you find out!

I may be wrong, but i believe your front differential is made by Dana, Chrysler called it a Corporate front differential

Some front differentials for the Dodge Ram 1500 were changed to use the
Chrysler ZF 215MM IFS Reverse Front
ZF 215MM IFS, 2012+ Ram 1500. The ring gear is welded to the carrier
Ring Gear Diameter: 8.500
so to change gear ratios, you buy a new carrier with the ring gear already welded on

Read this article on Ram front differentials
http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/te...ting-educated/

================================================== ===
Your rear is made by ZF Friedrichshafen AG, known to us as ZF
https://www.yukongear.com/diffdetail...2+%2710+%26+Up
The carrier is also welded to the ring gear in the rear differential

You can change the gears but you need a front diff from a 2011 truck. On a 2012 the ring is welded to the carrier and can't be changed. Then, depending on what gear size you want to go with, machining of the housing may be required as well. It's not a cheap job, you'll be looking at +/-$3000 to have it all done.

I'm curious, if OP has 3.21 gears for example he could just find a 2012+ truck (wreck..) with 3.92 gears and swap the whole axle/housing/etc right?

There are a fair number on car-part.com.

Obviously wouldn't help if he already has 3.92 gears and is seeking deeper ones.

Yes that is correct. Doing a simple swap like that is definitely do-able if 3.92 gears are desired. However I'm expecting the OP is going to want to go lower than that for 37's. Likely 4.10's or 4.56's.

I see the link that i posted is messed up

Fourwheeler Network
Nuts & Bolts: 2015 Ram 1500 Gearing Options
Posted in How To: Tech Qa on March 6, 2016

Your truck is equipped with a 215mm ZF differential that is slightly larger than the 205mm that was in the 2011 and older models. Though the differential appeared under Ram 1500s starting in 2012, sometimes it takes a while for aftermarket gear and traction device manufacturers to develop products for a new axle. Developing a gear ratio isn't as simple as adding teeth to the ring gear and taking them away from the pinion; it takes a lot of R&D, testing, and refining for each and every ratio. The same thing goes for traction devices like limited slips and lockers.

We spoke to Just Differentials (justdifferentials.com), which unfortunately had very little information about the availability or even an ETA of either aftermarket ratios or traction devices for the 215mm ZF axle. It appears that you are limited to only available factory ratios at this time, which stop at 3.92.

Further complicating things are various reports from the field that ZF welded the ring gear to the carrier rather than using conventional ring gear bolts.
a welded ring gear means a gear swap is going to mean swapping carriers as well. There are also reports that swapping in a differential from an earlier (2011) Ram is a bolt-in, but that only nets you the ability to install up to 4.56 gears without any available traction devices. The earlier differential uses a smaller (205mm) ring-and-pinion, and you'd still have relatively weak CV axleshafts. Plus, the costs of sourcing an earlier differential and then doing a gear swap are probably prohibitive.

If you're dead set on lower gears and a front limited-slip or locker, your only options are going to require extensive custom fabrication in the form of a custom IFS system and a solid-axle swap. Neither option would be something we would recommend an average home fabricator attempt. At the end of the day you'll need to evaluate just how badly you want to upgrade your Ram and your budget, then make a decision accordingly. Or you could sit back and wait for a couple of years in the hopes that the aftermarket eventually addresses the ZF front axle.
