Default Malfunction indicator light (MIL)

I need some insight on this indicator light. It popped up on my dashboard this past weekend. It comes on everytime I start the truck and stays on. Can any technicians on the board help with why this is happening? Does the truck need to be taken in immediately?

I have a 2010 Ram 1500 4x2 Crew cab with about 34,000 miles on it.

If it is the little engine symbol you will need to have the system scanned for an OBD (On Board Diagnostics) Code. The light stays on when a persistent code is active in the system. As long as it stays lit continuously you should be fine to drive it until you can get it scanned. If it is flashing it needs to be looked at right away. Once you have the code there are many websites online that can tell you what the problem is related to. Hope this helps.

I have a predator and looked up the code on it. P0456 is the code and it came up as Evaporative emmissions control system leak. Any idea what this is? Easy fix or something the dealer has to take care of?

The quick search that I did leads to the gas cap (faulty gasket) or one of the vacuum hoses between the tank and the engine. I'd try a new gas cap first and see if that corrects the problem. Note that the code will not go away right away, it takes a few start/stop cycles for the code to clear. Or you could clear it with your DSP and see if it comes back or not.

So I took my tune off and the light went away, and the tuner showed no trouble codes. Is it normal for a tuner to cause false alarms with indicator lights on your dashboard? This is the first time it has happened to me.

If the problem is still there then the MIL w/ the same code will return after some key cycles or miles.
