Question Improving ride quality...

I have a 2012 Ram 1500 Express regular cab with the 6'3" bed with 6k on the odo. I've replaced a Hellwig front sway bar in place of the stock one and the McGaughey's rear lowering springs/shakles on the rear which brought the rear down only about 1".

I would like the truck a bit lower for easier in/out for me and my wife and I would like to improve the ride quality. The short wheel base rides a bit rough! According to my VIN, the dealership says I have a "performance suspension" and they show no options available from Dodge.

So, I've checked out Ride Tech, Air Ride Technologies and Belltech for air ride systems. Belltech doesn't make one for my application. Is an air ride system my only option, or:
1. check tire pressure and if too high, lower it a bit and soften the ride?;
2. have "softer" shocks installed on all 4 corners?; or
3. ???

Any and all help is appreciated, thanks!

One way to improve the ride is to drive the other brands! You'll notice how good our trucks are right away.

I have the same truck and i am wondering about the same ride quality question your having. I had KYB shocks on my 07 ram and it helped out alot. I am thinking of going the same way with my 2012.

As for ease in and out you can't beat AMP power boards. I love mine.

Easiest way to improve ride is go down to 17" wheels.

I put on GroundForce 2" rear lowering springs with their shorter shocks. Helped alittle getting in and out. You can go with 17" or 18" wheels and a tire that has a taller sidewall for better ride, but go with 31" diameter vs stock 33" diameter and you lower truck 1" with more sidewall flex. Is the sway bar you put on smaller diameter? Smaller diameter swaybar=better ride, but more body roll in hard turns. Monroe Sensatrac shocks will give better ride but they are made for stock ride height.
If you really want a smoother ride you will have to contact a suspension company that knows what the stock springs are rated. Lets say the fronts are 700lb spring rate with a compressed height of 8.5", you could then get a spring with a compressed height of 7.5" (1" lower) at a spring rate of 450lbs. You would have a 1" lower ride with a much softer ride because of softer springs.
I was lucky, I worked at NAPA and had a catalog that showed compressed height's spring rates on all the different kinds of coil springs. They are not all alike. I had a 87 Monte Carlo SS, I wanted a stiffer front end because of bigger tires. Went from stock SS springs (450lb rating?) to a spring that had 725'ish lb rating, but with a compressed height that was 1" lower. Still had to cut 1/2 coil to get ride height exactly where I wanted it, but was perfect stance when I was done. Takes time, but worth it in the end.
Maybe its as simple as putting 6 cylinder front/rear springs/shocks in place of the "Express" performance ones.
Bottom line...its a truck with a "performance" suspension, its not going to ride like a four door sedan. It can, but you have some work cut out for you. Sorry for long rant, it takes me a lot of words to get my meaning out the way I see it in my head.........
