Default 2007 engine mods for more power

Hi all, this is my first post. Things look good around here. I am posting for a friend, hes computer illiterate. He just pickup up a 2007 RAM 1500 Big Horn with a 5.7 Hemi. Hes been blindly buying parts to get some more power out of it and didnt even consult me first. Not that I am an expert but I atleast had some suggestions for him. He just spent about $2000 on a cold air intake, cooks headers and a cat-back side exhaust system. The headers havent showed up yet but hes got the other parts on and doesnt notice much more power. What else is good to do on these trucks? I had suggested that he buy one of those hand held tuners and play with the EFI/timing settings. Whats your input on this? Also, what are the cheapest upgrades that give the best performance?

I had suggested to him to be careful what he does, such as the headers. From my knowledge, adding those will take away alot of his low end torque and in the end cost him more in gas because hes gonna be beating on the motor to feel the power.

thanks for the help!

Have him checkout "Diablosport Predator" for a tuner . I was gonna recommend one of our vendors but none of them sell the Predator . You can also check out Bully Dog . I have no experience with them but haven't heard anything bad about them . It's just I'm more familiar with the Predator .

I just picked up the DSP (Diablosport Predator) and I can feel a difference. Even with the canned tunes that come with it, I feel it. I am using the 93 Octane tune and disabled MDS for now to see what the difference it..

I have not used any other programmers before, so I can't say how the others are...

also, it all depends how he set's up his exhaust in regards to losing low-end performance..if he keeps the stock cats and runs piping to a new Y pipe, then goes single 3" piping to 3" si/so muffler..he should see good throttle response...

I'm new here also but you WILL NOT LOSE TORQUE WITH HEADERS IT DOESN'T MATTER! Shortyes, mids, or long tubes they all give u more tq than u have with stock setup the more u spend shorty, mid, long the more tq u will gain. $$$$ is the only hold up

You lose it if you go too big in the piping (after the headers) unless it's justified by the mods..

get long tube headers. my bro in law had a nice setup-long tube headers to true dual exhaust, flowmasters, no cats, vararam air intake, edge evolution programmer. and more power usually means a higher gas bill

After the exhaust mods i would look into a 180 t-stat to rich it up a little.
If your pal is sticking with a single style cat-back then i wold cancel the cat-back order and use the current 3" stock piping and get an nice flowing muffler. Should save a few $$ that way.

This thread may be dead, but I posted another one and havent received any answers...Looking to do some of the same things that dasr12006's friend is doing. Want to purchase headers, tuner and intake manifold before this winter, but am not sure which one to start with. Already have a CAI and Flowmaster muffler on the stock exhaust. If I go with headers, do I have to get new exhaust tubing or can they just bolt on to the existing with no modifying? either going to get the DS Predator or the Bully Dog tuner...any thoughts? Hope to hear some great answers.
Thanks,
Travis
