Default Thoughts on this after market cold air intake

As everyone knows, the tabs on the 94-01 ram truck, cold air intakes break so easy. Well I am tired of looking at the tape holding it together and hunted down this cold air intake and was just wondering if anyone has any input. I know there are much better but this is a decent looking one, and the price is right. Not to mention reusable air filter is nice.

As an after thought, this says will give a touch more hp. Anyone have any recommendations for other little things that might add hp and or fuel enconomy? I read on here the used of full synthetic is good for fuel. I know the side effect of the syn vs dino can be a longer running engine, but does the fuel savings warrant using synthetic?

Are there better plugs or wires that will show improvement? Thinks like that, that you may have tried and found worth using. Thanks!

I've been looking at cold air intakes for my truck as well so I'll be watching this thread. If you get this set up please post results, it looks good, and a good price. Hope someone posts up that has experience with these intakes.

I have done a bit more research and have come up with the following.

Cold air intakes do increase horse power as the colder air allows for more o2 into the engine. And if driven normally can even do a mile or two added mpg. But there are two kinds of "cold air" intakes. The one pictured isnt totally a cold air intake. A cold air intake is defined, if I read it right, as an air intake that doesnt house the filter inside the engine cavity. They are often put in front of the front wheel area. As vehicles are not set up for such air intakes, you have to cut into that air either through metal or the plastic wheel well.

I cant for the life of me remember what the one I pictured is called but what it comes down to is air temp. With the one I pictured the filter is much closer to the outside so the air will be cooler then a stock one. The typical air temp in a engine cavity is 160. So with a stock air intake the air enters, warms, hits the filter and slows, warms even more and then enters the engine.

So here are my thoughts. It should help a little and with a few things that help a little, I might get an extra say 10-20 horse power (ie. air intake, synthetic oil, real good spark plugs and wires, good fuel filter...) and might get some better mpg to boot. But even if i dont, all these things will lighten my engines work load and make it last longer. So why not?

Will be ordering the air intake in the next few days and will post info about it then.

Personally...and I speak from previous ownership, most CAIs' for 2nd gens are over rated. I can't tell the difference between my 14x3 round Air cleaner and the uber high dollar front mounted CAI I had. Plus it and all the baffling and tubes took up half the engine compartment.

THe last test I saw with a K&N Fipk and a 3 inch single exhaust netted about 13 hp. SO 10 -20 hp with an intake and synthetic oil and plugs...very doubtful. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Replace your broken stock housing yes...but buy a metal air cleaner and save your coin for a tuner or something that will give you a real boost.

Okiespaniels, please give more info on the tuner or any other ideas. These are just the ones I have come across so far and am sure there are other things out there I would be worth adding. I wish that 75 hp chip that keeps popping up acually worked
