Default Gas Milage

Okay so i have a 2003 ram qc with the hemi. I understand that with it being such a big truck the gas milage isn't going to be great, but i feel like i should be getting better then 13 on average. The only thing i've done to the truck was put in a Bullydog Triple GT tuner. I'm not so sure the tuner has done anything beneficial to my gas milage. Any suggestions would be great. Was looking into switching tuners and getting a k&n intake. Thanks, Trevor

Anyone I've talked to haven't had any milage gains using tuners or CIAs either so your not alone. There are a lot trucks where I live, and I know a lot of people on here will swear by them, but you'd think I would have come across just one person in my travels who would have told me the gadgets have done what they claim they are supposed to do. I bought a K&N for my old '98 and while a good filter did nothing for power or fuel milage gains. (As you can tell I'm not a fan of these plug-in miracles.)

How many miles are on the truck and how long since the last plug change, fuel filter change, tune-up etc.? Do you know what gears you have in the rear end? I never got good milage with my 05 either and never kept track of average. 16 - 17 was probably the best I ever got on the highway.

It's the off-road Laramie edition but the rear end would be stock and im just about to roll 99k miles. As for fluid changes i'm not sure i bought the truck about 6 months and 7k miles ago. As for the air filter i've been on the fence about it, i've heard it helps, that it doesn't help unless theres an exhaust added also, and that it does nothing. With the tuner i'm thinking i'm going to jump it back to stock and see what my actual milage is versus the "economy" tune.

13 mpg sounds about right for that year.

Don't waste your money on any more tuners, or cai's, they will not improve your milage, only take your money. Make sure your plugs are not in use over 30,000 miles, air filter is clean, and drive very carefully and the milage you get is the best you will ever get with that truck. Remember high horsepower and heavy wieght do not make for good gas milage. Good luck.

Default milage improvement

I read on the forum that taking my truck out of eco mode while driving around town gives you a better feel for the truck and stops that grumbling drive line noise. So, after filling up at the gas station (regular fuel) and driving around town for a couple of weeks, I had to agree, that the truck drove better. When I filled up the next time, I was suprised to find that my milage was 16.3 mpg. On previous fillups after driving the same roads and the same way, but in eco mode, I only got 13.9 mpg.....2+ mpg in around town driving is great. Just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, I did it again with similar results. My Ram is a 2012 Hemi with the 375? gears, I think thats the number. Norton

Default Mds!

I too questioned the issue of NOT using eco mode. I decided to give it a test, my mpg using eco since I have had the truck was 16.0 like clockwork. Then the last 2 tanks I have switched to "6" gear each time, my mileage now has averaged 17.7 mpg. So I no longer use eco mode!

I have a 2012 big horn crew, I assume that you turn off eco mode using the evic?

I would like (wishful thinking??) to gain 3-4 mpg out of the truck. I drive 110 miles a day (to and from work) driving into Hollywood. So 50 miles is all highway (mostly 55-70mph) then the last 5 miles are city. I know some people here have strong feelings on CAI's and other "gadgets" to improve performance/gas milage. My opinion is, if it helps just a little, it would pay off in the long run.

Does having a tonneau cover help gas milage?
