Default ICI Nerf bar install help

Hello folks - I'm brand new here. Bought my first RAM 1500 a few weeks ago and I'm trying to put on some nerf bars. The bars I bought are from ICI and the mounting plates it has bolt onto the side of the truck - I believe that's the splash guard. It also has a bracket that connects to the cab bolt and then runs over to the plate. I assume this is for extra stability/rigidity. My question comes from this piece. The instructions indicate removing the cab bolt that is behind the front wheel and mounting the bracket there but the picture makes it seem like you should pull the bolt off and sandwich the bracket between the bolt head and the washer. The issue is with my 2014 RAM that the washer doesn't appear to be removable, I'm not even sure how the washer was mounted to the bolt to begin with. Does anyone have any experience with a kit like this and if so how did you mount the bracket? I sure don't want to mess the cab mount bushing up by doing this wrong. Any advice would be helpful. I can snap some pics if none of this makes sense.
