Default Any way to start it with just the key?

I just bought my 2010 Ram 1500 last week. I was poking around on it and realized that the regular (metal) key won't fit in the ignition.
Is there a place to put the key to start the truck when the battery goes dead in the fob?

Good question...So much for the spare key in your wallet. I am not a fan of this setup.

There's a spare key built inside the fob. But so far, all I can tell it does is open the door. Someone told me it was so you could carry a spare battery in the truck and if your fob dies you can at least get into the truck and get the spare battery.

I'm pretty sure the fob will start the truck even if the fob battery is dead.

Tested and confirmed. The FOB will start the vehicle, even if the battery has been removed from the FOB.

To give myself some spare keys, I bought 2 chipped metal keys from a online reseller, took the keys to my Dodge dealer, who cut the keys to fit my locks and they programmed the key to start my truck.

Cost:

$20 for each key
$20 to cut/program them

The key will unlock the door/tailgate and will start and run the truck. The key has the same notch that the FOB has that allows it to fit in the ignition.

Just had a funny experience. The FOB was beginning to play up, stopped at the store took the FOB apart to check battery size took the key out to lock the truck left the dismantled fob in the truck. got the new battery came back and unlocked the door with key the alarm went off and I could't stop it until I put the Fob back together.

Do you have pics of this weird looking key? I just can't seem to visualize a metal key that is shaped like the fob that will start the truck

Default Regular Key in New Dodge Rams

I believe the key will only work the door locks and the tailgate. I have been told that if you try to use the key you won't get far and it will shut your computer down and it is off to the dealer to get it re-set.
